  1. I just love the chocolate peanut butter combo and I always love your recipes so I can’t wait to try this! Thanks for the brownies recipe!

  2. It is realistic ๐Ÿ˜‰ I do it every day.Yes, it’s a lot of work. But if I make batter for cookies – I make twice at once, freeze and next time I can use it very quick.

  3. That was not rude – that was true. I’m unhappy with recipes from some prebought mixes. Ok this page might be for mases, but what if in my country there are no such think like cake mix (thanks God!)?? I think an option would be to share 100% home made + recipe with mixes. Both sides would win. I read this page for a lond time and I think sometimes open unpossitive comment should shake creators mind, so it won’t sleep.

  4. LOVE this Amy! my family would flip if I made these.

Who cares if they are from a box or not! and I’ve not news for those “box mixer haters” – they’d be SHOCKED to found out how many cake bakers use them! – I’ve been told by a pastry chef that box mixes are great because your dry ingredients are perfectly premeasured for you.

Besides that, how DARE someone come to your blog/ your space and tell you what you can/can’t share. Shame on them!…….guess they go out and milk the cow each morning to get milk for their cereal too ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. WOW!! and that’s a wow for 2 reasons — all the negative comments made me go WOW – how rude! and also drew my attention to this even more – so i made them this afternoon – and WOW – these are delish!! thanks amy!

  6. Amy, I love quick and easy recipes like this. My busy schedule and lack of baking talent doesn’t allow for baked from scratch delights. I so appreciate the free inspiration you offer here on a daily basis!

  7. Good granny those brownies look and sound amazing!!! As a homeschooling mother of four and home business owner I am all about what is quick and easy. I don’t make desserts often anymore, but when I do, they have to be easy or I wont’ make them.

Thank you, Amy, for sharing this simple but delicious recipe!

  8. Honestly a lot of the time I just use a box mix for the mix it self…i dont add the other ingredients suggested on the box and the sweet im trying to make comes out oh so amazing that a lot of the time..well actually all of the time no one ever notices the difference…it doesnt make them sick and they love it! which always makes me smile…I love cooking and I love cooking when it makes other people people smile!! theres no reason to be ugly…if you saw the recipe and didnt want to use it there was no reason to even comment. Just hit the exit button and leave it alone…no reason to be ugly. A lot of amazing cooks and bakers use those “fake” box mixes and dollars to donuts you guys who think its real have been probably fooled for years!

  9. Sorry to keep adding to the comments but I am hoping I have the final say!! I bake from scratch when I have time and I use mixes when I am short on time. Everything I bake is equally good and loved by my family and friends. I made these brownies yesterday and they are FABULOUS! I appreciate comments when a recipe is written incorrectly and someone is correcting the mistake or commenting that their family did not care for a recipe when they have followed it as written (not the people who change it and then criticize it’s outcome) but to be rude when you aren’t even going to try the recipe? Why would you see a need to do that? I love this blog, keep up the good work!

  10. Try not to take it to heart. I did after a few comments on my blog and deleted the whole blog. The blog was intended for my immediate family only and others stumbled upon it over time. Then one day it got ugly with a couple of people and continued to be. Funny thing is, they kept coming back…hmmm.
Now I look back and think they may have just had a blog themselves and wanted to run off the competition. Please ignore them. This sounds fabulous!

  11. I too am a lover of cake mixes, brownie mixes, cookie mixes etc. Without them I would rarely have time to make stuff to take for spreads at work or for my family. “Ain’t nobody got time for that!” ๐Ÿ˜€

One of the ladies I used to work with always brought her famous to die for brownies – in fact I think a lot of times we’d have spread just so Jessica would bring these brownies.

I asked her for her recipe & she said with a big smile “Two boxes of Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownie Mix. Follow the directions on the box!”

I asked her if she doctored them up because from a vast amount of taste testing over the years I just knew they could not possibly be from just a plain old box mix! “Nope! Just followed the directions on the box.” she said.

I didn’t completely believe her until I bought a couple of boxes and made them. She was right. They are to die for just like that!

The description on Ghirardelli’s website says: “The classic brownie with a sophisticated twist. Rich, moist brownie with premium Ghirardelliยฎ Chocolate Chips is sure to create an intense chocolate experience chocolate lovers are sure to cherish.”

These brownies used in Amy’s recipe would be beyond heavenly! And as soon as I am no longer on a low carb diet I will make her recipe! ๐Ÿ˜€

And as for the two cranky pants ladies who think they are above using a mix? Good! Leaves more for the rest of us to enjoy.

  12. Thanks so much for all the great post you do, and please don’t listen to the critics. Keep up the wonderful work, love your site

  13. My mom always told me if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all. Too bad some people have forgotten that or sad for them were never taught it. I for one can’t wait to make these. Thanks for sharing this great looking recipe.

  14. The best part about those ugly comments is all the sweet, wonderful ones that followed! My mom makes a cream cheese pound cake that starts from a box, and she gifts it to everyone around town. Many people simply know her as ‘The Cake Lady’. A box mix is simply taking several of the steps and ingredients from a scratch mix and combining them.
thanks so much for the recipe, I will definitely be making it!

  15. Lemme tell ya…I’m a huge believer in making from scratch – and there was a time I thought is never buy a packaged mix…I was studying to be a holistic nutrition coach so anything packaged is a big no no. Well enter mamahood and I’m a changed woman. Life is soooo busy.. And now esp with two kids one baby and one 3 – it’s super hard to get some amazing time in the kitchen. Things move fast now…and my good has to also. Esp during the week – but I now make things from package and you know what – it’s fabulous !! I now don’t judge others bc you don’t know anyone’s lifestyle..these are perfect for those times you wanna a treat that’s delicious but don’t have the time to make from scratch!! And really what it all comes down to is the love that went into the meal! And by looking at this recipe and the pictures…there’s a whole lotta love!!! Keep sharing the deliciousness!! I can’t wait to try them!! Anything peanut butter and chocolate..I’m all over it! Yum!!

  16. I enjoy making things from scratch but as a mother of 2 I’m always on the go so I also LOVE making easy and quick recipes like this one. Yummy recipe! Thank you for sharing Amy.

  17. Lina and Bridy. Behave yourselves and try to live with a heart of appreciation and gratitude for someone who is doing something positive. It’s easy to criticize and much more difficult to actually make a positive difference. What have you done lately to be nice versus critical? And if you don’t have something nice to say…move on to another blog. Clearly by the reactions to your thoughtless comments this is not something that is welcome here.

  18. Obviously some people just didn’t learn if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything. I don’t understand why people come on blogs just to be rude. GET A LIFE people!

  19. The brownies that I consistently get told are amazing and the cupcakes that everyone can’t believe how moist they are – they’re all from box mixes. They are more consistent than “from scratch” recipes! I do doctor them to some extent, but good lord, if I had to bake every cake and batch of brownies I make from scratch, I wouldn’t have time to cook anything else or clean, or do anything else!

  20. What a great recipe!!! As a working mom it is so great to have recipes like this! Thank you Amy!!

  21. I love to make things from scratch too. However I also have a husband who says: “Hey, I’m visiting the so and so family in half an hour. Can you make me something to take to them?” Many a times, a box mix has saved me. Amy thanks for all your wonderful ideas and for taking all the time that you do to share these things with us!!!

  22. Thank you for sharing! They look delicious! I never would have considered whether they were from scratch or not if they were offered to me, so why does it matter?! I love being able to spruce up box mixes, I’m just too chicken to try it myself! I’m loving your blog, ‘from scratch’ or ‘boxed’!

Can’t wait to try these! And, with a laugh, thanks for commenting on facebook about the ‘scratch’ thing, cuz I hadn’t gotten to my reads, but the pic looked so scrumptious I had to pop over and check it out! Might not have seen it otherwise!

  23. Actually a friend (also a journeyman baker) who made my wedding cake- (and it was the most delicious wedding cake ever) used a boxed mix- and doctored it with additional ingredients. I enjoy all recipes- boxed, from scratch and a hybrid of both. How can a recipe be a “fake”, it’s not made with Unicorn farts. Why do women judge and get so rude and mean? OVER a CAKE RECIPE?! Good grief!

  24. I think they look great! And whether it’s a box mix or a scratch mix, it doesn’t matter to me, and sometimes for times sake, a box just makes things easier! ๐Ÿ™‚

  25. Thanks for the recipe. It is simple as we don’t have much free time this days to make them from scratch..

  26. Oh my goodness these look fantastic! Totally something to whip up for that next “I forgot it was potluck” church event! Thanks for the quick, tasty treat.

And seriously, if you prefer from scratch, just make the cookie dough and brownies from scratch or just be a little more positive. You could totally have said “These would be awesome with my homemade brownie recipe” or “I have a great cookie dough recipe that would work amazing with this” instead of saying something rude.

  27. My mom is an great baker (trying to get her to open her own shop) and does everything from scratch. I think for most people it’s better to make things from scratch so to control what goes in it especially if your a diabetic or allergic to gluten. These look scrumptious, though, and something I’ll make for the kiddos!

  28. Actually, a “recipe” is simply defined as “A set of instructions for preparing a particular dish, including a list of the ingredients required” so that’s exactly what this is. And as a busy working mother, I appreciate the quick shortcuts this recipe uses – Thanks, Amy! While we’d all love to be able to whip up every meal from scratch using only home-prepared, organic, and non-preservative options, it’s just not realistic.

  29. Love recipes that call for mixes. Working full-time and having a limited budget, the mixes provide all kinds of ingredients that I would need to buy for “from scratch” recipes. Don’t get me wrong, I do both, but on nights when we want something quick or when a special occasion sneaks up on me, bring on the recipes using a mix as a starting base! Amy, we love ya! And ALL the recipes you post. Blessings to you and yours!

  30. This looks so good! I cant wait to try it, thanks for the recipe!! PS, I love your postings! I don’t usually comment but thought I’d send some positive vibes! ๐Ÿ™‚

  31. Lighten up, ladies! This blog (as stated in the “about” section) is about being fun & creative. I don’t generally use box recipes either, but that’s why I also follow healthy blogs. “Better give us real recipes.” Wow. Sounds so rude!!!

  32. Some people just don’t have the time to bake from scratch. It’s also a great family project. ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. All well and good but clearly Amy is trying to appeal to the masses here – not everyone likes to or can bake from scratch. Do I? Yes, and prefer it but I will admit that every once in a while a box mix is all someone has time for or can do. Amy probably realizes that not all her readers are “from scratch” bakers and so would like to provide recipes for them to use as well. It doesn’t make them wrong just as the fact that you prefer to bake from scratch makes you right. It’s just a difference in opinion. You could provide your ideas and thoughts in a far more constructive and positive manner or just not comment at all. We’re all here to be a part of a supportive community, not one that is demeaning or negative.

  34. Hey, the pictures are wonderful. Honestly if you would have served them anywhere people would just grab for one considering how awesome they look. And I can’t tell you to ignore the rude people but don’t bring yourself down over it. Jealousy makes people mean ๐Ÿ˜‰

  35. I have to disagree with the previous posters. I like quick, easy tasty treats! If you don’t like the recipe, then don’t make it, but that doesn’t mean it’s fake sheesh! I’ve seen sooo many recipes that start out with a mix and then add to it. It’s all real and still a recipe and still tasty! I look forward to making this for my guys!

  36. My Grandmother (who makes cakes all the time that are TO DIE FOR) always uses boxes. She says they are more moist and less dense. She also says that they will turn out better than the “from scratch” cakes. Who am I to argue with a 75 year old amazing cook!!

  37. LOVE your posts and all your recipes and Ideas Amy! Keep them coming!!! WE appreciate you!

  38. I’m not sure who pee’d in your cereal this morning – but I’m sure amy will not point out how terrible your english is “why to use some mixes”. If you don’t like it, move onto another blog and stop being a bully.

  39. Lina and Birdy you are not forced to makes these! I think this is a great recipe and I happen to LOVE this site! As my mom says, “If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all!” Amy ignore these RUDE women and keep doing what you do best! You go girl!

  40. There’s nothing wrong with a shortcut now and again – they look lovely! Wish you lived next door

  41. I have to agree. I don’t ever buy mixes and always make from scratch. Most people have the few items on hand that is needed to make brownies. I always say, if you are going to have a treat, make it a good one and your efforts will be much appreciated, and it is so much healthier without all the preservatives and added sodium of boxed foods.

  42. This is not a recipe. It’s fake. Why to use some mixes. Better give us real recipes, not with mixes.
