What is in a Zombie Drink?

The Zombie is a cocktail made of fruit juices, liqueurs, and several kinds of rum.

It was invented by Donn Beach at his Hollywood restaurant in 1934. It became popular on the East coast after the 1939 New York World’s Fair.

This was a time when Tiki themed bars were the craze, making the Zombie a popular Tiki drink.

How do you make Mango Puree?

One of this Zombie drink’s ingredients is mango puree. You might be wondering where you can find this or how you can make it.

You can buy mango puree or syrup at most liquor stores, on Amazon here, or make it yourself with a fresh mango.

For fresh Mango Puree, you’ll need:

  • 1 ripe mango, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons water

Put the ingredients into a blender and puree. That’s it!

What is Angostura Bitters?

One of the important ingredients in a Tiki drink is Angostura Bitters. Bitters are made from botanicals such as aromatic herbs, bark, roots, and fruit. These ingredients are infused into a flavorless alcohol base to create a potent flavoring.

How Do You Make a Layered Tiki Cocktail?

What makes this such a stunning tropical drink is the layers.

For this Zombie cocktail, start by filling your glass with ice and pouring the bright red grenadine first. Then mix the rest of the drink ingredients together in a cocktail shaker and pour over the grenadine.

The colorful layers create a sunset look that makes you feel like you’re on the beach!
