Pet Party Ideas
With the holidays right around the corner, a new movie makes the perfect stocking stuffer. One of my favorite animated films ever, The Secret Life of Pets, is out on Blu-ray & DVD!
To celebrate the new release featuring nearly an hour of bonus content that includes three hilarious mini-movies, I was asked to come up with a fun pet party idea that would provide you some inspiration for a family movie night. The Secret Life of Pets is a comedy about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day.
I’ve always wondered what our cat, Apollo was up to when we’re not around. I truly think he just sleeps, but you never know… he could be having his own pet party!
I like to mix crafts and fun recipes into my parties, and thought that creating your own treats with a Puppy Chow Bar was the perfect pet party snack.
Make your own dog and cat paper cups as a party craft or put them together ahead of time for each family member and friend to fill with puppy chow and all of their favorite toppings. As much as I love cats, the dog cups turned out to be my favorite!! This one looks a lot like Mel the pug.
I even tried to recreate Max the terrier and his cat friend Chloe.
What do you think? These cups look like the characters right? ha! You can tell we had a blast watching the movie and crafting. Two of my favorite things to do!
The Puppy Chow dessert bar turned out super fun. My kids loved this! It’s such a cute and simple idea for a pet themed birthday party or The Secret Life of Pets movie watching party.
What you need for a Puppy Chow Bar
Dog and Cats Cups Craft:
- Silver, Gold and White 9 ounce paper cups
- Brown, gray, black, white and pink colored cardstock.
- Small glue dots
- Scissors
- Small paper punch
Puppy Chow Bar:
- Several bags of Chex Mix Muddy Buddies or make your own. (Click here -> to try our Lemon Meringue Pie Chex Party Mix Recipe)
- Your favorite small snacks.
- Small bowls
- Spoons
For my Puppy Chow Bar snacks, I used mini marshmallows, M&M’s, Craisins, Teddy Grahams, nuts and mini Oreo cookies.
Fill a large bowl with the Muddy Buddies and place all of the other snack filled bowls around it for your guests to mix their favorites together in a cute pet cup!
To make the dog and cat cups, simply cut ears, noses, tongues, and whiskers out of the cardstock. Use a hole punch to make the eyes. Attach your face parts to the cups with tiny glue dots.
Get creative! If you do this craft for a party activity, be sure to provide awards for the most creative, funniest cat, etc.
Get The Secret Life of Pets with 3 Mini Movies on Blu-ray & DVD December 6, then use stuffed animals and anything else pet related for party table decorations.
Kids and adults will love this easy pet party idea!

Love this! My daughter is having her birthday party at our local cat cafe and this would make a fun party favor for the guests.
Thank you! I love the cat too:-)
Can’t even express how much I love these crafts! The absolute cutest one is the grey cat (to me), but I am just so in love with all of them!!
