I’m finally getting used to TALKING to the camera, but please be patient with me on my first tutorials, as I am NOT the best at making high quality videos. You will get the idea even if the screen shakes and things look blurry at times. I hope to learn more as I go along!

Today, I will show you how to make a cute and easy paper purse craft, perfect for party favors, gift card bags or a kids craft activity. Try not to laugh too hard at my southern twang. Ha! Hope ya’ll enjoy this Paper Purse craft tutorial!

Why You’ll Obsess Over This Paper Purse Craft

1. The Ultimate Scrap-Buster

We all have that “too pretty to toss” stash of cardstock and ribbon scraps. This project is the perfect way to turn those leftovers into something high-end. It’s basically upcycling with a designer twist.

2. One Template, Infinite Personalities

Whether you’re going for a “Boho Chic” look with twine and kraft paper or a “Glitter Glam” vibe for a birthday, this craft is a total chameleon. You can customize the:

  • Handle: Use ribbon, pearl beads, or even twisted wire.
  • Closure: Add a Velcro dot, a tiny magnet, or a decorative sticker “buckle.”

3. Stress-Free Gifting (That Looks Expensive)

Let’s be real: sliding a gift card into a paper sleeve is fine, but tucking it into a miniature handbag? That’s an experience. It’s perfect for:

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

  • Birthday Party Favors: Fill them with lip balm and stickers.
  • Bridal Showers: The cutest way to hold tea bags or chocolates.
  • Teacher Appreciation: A stylish way to say “thanks” with a coffee shop gift card inside.

4. High-Impact, Low-Effort

You don’t need a master’s degree in paper engineering for this. If you can fold and glue, you’re in business. It’s a great “intro to paper crafting” project that makes everyone feel like a pro designer.

Supplies you will need:

  • 12 x 12 Scrapbook Paper (I used the rainbow chevron pattern paper and floral paper from my Rainbow Collection in the video. So cute!!)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Toothpick (or Scoring Tool)
  • Small Hole Punch
  • 3″ Strip of Ribbon or Pipe Cleaners
  • Embellishments, Glue Dots or Stickers

Supplies

  • 12 x 12 Scrapbook Paper
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Toothpick
  • Small Hole Punch
  • 3″ Strip of Ribbon or Pipe Cleaners
  • Embellishments

Instructions

  • Trim your paper into three  4″ wide strips.
  • Flip the paper upside down to mark and score the paper starting from the right side. I used a toothpick to score the paper.
  • Measurements are 1″, 3″, 2″ (this will be the bottom), 3″ and the rest will be the purse flap.
  • Fold the paper and punch 2 holes into the top of the purse for the strap.
  • Add ribbon into the holes for the strap. Tie a knot in the ribbon under the flap and trim off any extra.
  • Trim your purse flap into a shape and add an embellishment, sticker or glue dot to hold the flap in place.
  • Use a glue dot to hold a bag of goodies into the purse for party favors.
