Make rich and chewy Dark Chocolate Chip Cake Mix Cookies in minutes! This easy recipe uses cake mix, butter, and chocolate chips for the ultimate homemade treat.

Dark Chocolate Chip Cake Mix Cookies
If you love rich, decadent cookies but don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen, these Dark Chocolate Chip Cake Mix Cookies are going to be your new favorite! They’re thick, chewy, and loaded with melty chocolate chips. Best of all, they come together quickly with a simple box of dark chocolate cake mix as the base. These are almost as good as my Softest Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe.
Cake mix cookies are one of the easiest desserts you can whip up, and this version takes things to the next level with the addition of cream cheese and brown sugar for extra softness and flavor. Add nuts, raisins, or dried cranberries if you’d like to customize them, but they’re just as delicious with chocolate chips alone.

Why You’ll Love These Cookies
- Quick & easy: Start with a cake mix for a no-fuss cookie dough.
- Rich chocolate flavor: Dark chocolate cake mix + chocolate chips = pure bliss.
- Perfectly chewy: Brown sugar and cream cheese add moisture for a soft, chewy texture.
- Customizable: Add nuts or dried fruit for extra flavor and crunch.
- Crowd-pleaser: These cookies disappear fast at parties and gatherings.
Want to save this for later?
Whether you need a last-minute dessert for a party, a sweet treat for family movie night, or a chocolate fix after a long day, this recipe won’t disappoint.
Dark Chocolate Chip Cake Mix Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 box Dark Chocolate Cake Mix
- ½ cup melted butter 1 stick
- ½ cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon cream cheese
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup nuts optional
- ½ cup raisins or dried cranberries optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Mix the wet ingredients. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, cream cheese, and vanilla until smooth.
- Add the cake mix. Stir in the dark chocolate cake mix until well blended. The dough will be thick.
- Fold in extras. Gently fold in the chocolate chips, along with nuts or dried fruit if desired.
- Scoop the dough. Drop rounded spoonfuls (about 1 ½ tablespoons) onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake. Place in the oven and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still slightly soft.
- Cool. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 2–3 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Cookie Tips & Variations
- For extra indulgence, drizzle the cooled cookies with melted white chocolate.
- Swap the semi-sweet chocolate chips for dark chocolate chunks for an even richer taste.
- Chill the dough for 20 minutes before baking if you prefer thicker cookies.
