My 80’s Bulletin Board

Today is Friday and my day to post something fun and personal. I was hoping after visiting my family in Oklahoma for a week, I would have some funny stories to tell. But, we just got caught in a spring time blizzard… nothing fun about that!

I did venture up in my mom’s attic and to my surprise found a bag with my high school bulletin board, still intact! Apparently I couldn’t fathom throwing away my corsages. The bag was full of nasty dried out flower dust. {cough!}

I graduated in 1989, so this thing is chalked full of great 80’s memories!! LOL! You have to appreciate my 4 inch high bangs. What’s even funnier is it wasn’t just me … everyone had them! Well, only my friend Lori had good hair. Which she still does to this day:-)

Either there weren’t that many great concerts in Tulsa back then, or I just didn’t have the best taste in music?? I do remember that Cyndi Lauper concert, it was soooo much fun! I think The Bangles (They sang… Walk like an Egyptian) opened up for her. Hard to believe it was only $10. As for Poison, yes… I loved Brett Michaels. There I said it for the world to know. Please don’t think bad of me.

Here is my Rick Springfield ticket stub. The first concert my mom took me to. Ahhhh memories! If you were an 80’s child… you know you loved him too:-)

And who didn’t LOVE Top Gun?

And Dirty Dancing???? Nobody puts Baby in a corner!

Do you remember Sixteen Candles? I think it’s obvious that it was my favorite movie. Half of the bulletin board is full of notes with drawings of Long Duk Dong. I think my friend Sharon drew this. I had several talented artist friends and we would write notes in class which always included drawings of Long Duk Dong! ha! Our poor teachers.

I also noticed everything by my name said “wacky” or “goofy”. I wonder why? hee.

Here’s something you might not know about me… I was run over by a girl named Lisa driving a giant station wagon one night. You remember the kind with the wooden panels? I got out of the car before she had stopped all the way and she ran over my foot. The tire held me under the car as I screamed to the load of girls in the back seat “Tell her to BACK UP!” She then put it in drive and ran right over me. (re-enacted in this note…)

Surprisingly the only thing wrong with my foot was a big tire print on my white Keds. The doctor said if she had backed up, my ankle and foot would have been crushed. Whew! Good thing Lisa didn’t listen to me!!

  • Did you grow up in the 80’s?

  • What were your favorite movies and concerts?

  • Have you ever had your foot ran over?

Hope you enjoyed my 80’s bulletin board. Have a great weekend!

Love- Goofy

  1. Love love love this post. I graduated in ’91, so I also had the big hair and loved Brett Michaels….good times, good times…

  2. thanks for the time machine. this was great! how wonderful that you still have those silly little memories 20 years later. i’m a bit jealous as think i threw most of my old memories away upon moving out to go to college.

  3. Mommy of Three! says:

I wonder too, if they still sell those spirit ribbons to pin on your shirts for game days & homecomings? We lived in a good time, even if you all did have big hair! Heehee!

  4. Mommy of Three! says:

Ah – ha! I now have it in writing…..even in the 80’s SHE(that would be me!) had GOOD HAIR! Yeah Baby!!! :)

Thanks for the walk down memory lane to PHS & now that I am famous with my mug on your blog about 3 times, I better be keeping my hair ‘just so’!! :)

    Be good, enjoyed reading this!

    Love ya – Lori

    • @Mommy of Three!,

I was wondering when you’d notice this! :-) Hope you’re feeling better and get off those crutches soon.

  5. You were totally rockin those 80’s bangs and yes I had them too…it must be an Oklahoma thing because all of my friends had them, it was the cool thing to do. How did we get into cars, walk in the wind and not fly away, etc. I look back and laugh at my super high bangs!

    • @Angie from The Arthur Clan,

LOL! Thought you knew everything about me right? Betcha didn’t know that about my foot. It’s even funnier with that drawing!

  7. This post was so fun! I love 80’s, it was the happiest time of my life, I found the love of my life in the 80’s…

  9. OMG! I totally had the exact same hair! I can still remember a photo spread of Brook Shields with long wavy hair! Of course mine was more like a long blonde afro! I still have a box somewhere filled with corsages too! I remember going to see REM, The Fixx, and of course I’ll always remember when I missed out on tickets to see U2 play at a University in town. Biggest regret of my life! And the prom dresses were the best! My senior prom I wore a Jessica McClintock(sp?) red strapless with like a frill on the edge??!! Way better than the florescent slinky things they wear now!! Think Pretty in Pink! hey thanks for the journey down memory lane!!

  11. i think your 80’s board is ab fab! i was born in 81… but am familiar with everything (except the running over the foot thing) and more from the 80’s because i watched my older sis as a teenager then. i watched all those movies with her (which i now own all of them on dvd, hahahaha). i watched her dress and tease the crap out of her hair. she totally rocked the wave! it was great, i loved it. it’s my fav era… even though i was just a little girl :)

  12. That is so cute!! I loved reading this. I graduated high school in the 90’s but I do remember the mid to late 80’s very well. I have “Jessie’s Girl” in my head now. I actually kept a folder of stuff from Jr. High and High school, and it’s fun to look back. :)

  13. An 80’s inspiration board…what a great way to take a trip down memory lane. It’s hard to believe all of the things we loved as children are resurfacing. Have you seen the new Strawberry Shortcake? She’s gone from a plump little frizzy haired doll to quite the little tart!
One thing I wished we actually could bring back? Those concert ticket prices…$10.50, $16? Holy cow. That will barely cover parking at the U2 concert in two months.
Hmm U2? I guess somethings really never do change…

  14. I am dying laughing here! I was more of a late 80s/early 90s girl. Equally embarrassing. So you were too cool for NKOTB? (I think I had those very same teddy bear stickers up there… along with my puffy heart earrings.)
