Mother’s Day is just around the corner and I love this simple homemade gift idea submitted by Sarah from Juniper & Dash. I love using Essential Oils to make homemade gifts. Thanks for sharing this bath salt recipe with us Sarah! ~ Amy
For some reason every year Mother’s Day sneaks up on me. Maybe because it invariably falls around this time of year where we can FINALLY get our of the house and do things in the sun again, time simply flies!
It doesn’t help that I always struggle with what to get for my mom because she ALWAYS says she needs “nothing” and that she has everything she needs. Which is great! But I want to get her something, something that expresses how grateful of everything she still does for me and has done for me. Something that is for her, not just something for the house.
So this year I had some forethought and decided I would make something for her. I’d just try to upgrade it from those finger paintings I made for her when I was in kindergarten.
One thing that my mom does love is the new bathtub they put in when they redid their bath tub… so I thought I’d try my hand at making super yummy smelling bath salts.
Now when you google ‘bath salts’ these days it’s more of an education than I anticipated as now there is a drug with the same name… so DON’T be confused. These bath salts are the good ones that you can use in your bath to smell delicious and ease those muscles.
Ingredients you will need:
- 2 cups Epsom Salt
- ¾ cup Baking Soda
- 1-2 Sprigs Fresh Rosemary (or 2 Tablespoons dried if you don’t have fresh)
- 8-10 drops Lavender Essential Oil (try my favorite here.)
In a mixing bowl combine epsom salt and baking soda. Chop the rosemary up as tiny as you can because it does need to go down the drain without causing problems, add to mixture. Slowly add essential oil in, stirring as you go or you’ll get little clumps.
Store in an airtight container for gifting or personal use. I love Weck jars for this with a fun twine, but mason jars are another great option, the key is airtight!
