The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens this fall and it’s never too early to get in on the movie fun! I have created several Hunger Games free party printables and now adding nail art to the list!
I’m excited to introduce the newest contributor here at Living Locurto!
Jamie Harrington is a talented crafter and young adult fiction writer who blogs at Totally the Bomb. Jamie does the coolest nail art and I’m so happy she shared a fun Hunger Games inspired idea! I hope you enjoy this step-by-step tutorial on how to paint Katniss inspired finger nails!
Take it away Jamie!

Hi it’s Jamie and along with Amy, I am a huge Hunger Games fan! Katniss’s dress at the Capitol Couture site is so fantastically amazing that it inspired this quick and easy little nail art tutorial.
How to Paint Katniss Capitol Couture Nails
What you need:
- white nail polish
- silver glitter nail polish
- clear top coat nail polish
- paper towel
- Q-Tip
- nail polish remover
Start with a White Nail. (I used two coats because I didn’t want any nail showing through.)
You are going to need an ordinary paper towel for the nail art gradient effect.
Tear off a tiny piece. I find that it’s easier to work with than using the entire paper towel, and the jagged edge will make your gradient less perfect. (That’s what we are going for.)
Now, for the silver part you don’t want a big chunky glitter with this look. You want nail polish with a much finer glitter.
Dab the silver polish on the end of the paper towel. It looks a little darker than you’re going to want it to be, but don’t worry– we are only using a tiny bit.
Now dab that color on your nail starting at the tip and working your way down toward the bed of the nail.
Don’t go all the way to the end, just dab a tiny bit so it looks like the glitter is falling.
You probably got nail polish all over your hands. Don’t worry, so did I. We can fix that super easy.
Dip a Q-Tip into nail polish remover (I recommend pure acetone. It dries out your hands, but that’s what lotion is for.)
Rub it along the edges and anywhere you got nail polish. See? Good as new.
Finish off with a fast-drying top coat. (I recommend Seche Vite, it’s the best.) And you will have perfectly couture Katniss Everdeen nails.
