It’s funny how as soon as you have children, the less you dream of beautiful living rooms and instead dream of luxury laundry rooms! Don’t get me wrong, I still dream of beautiful living and dinning rooms, but the ONE room I wish I could remodel would be my laundry room!
Take a tour of my laundry room and see what I did to turn my tiny space from a place I used to dread to enter, into a place I enjoy.
Come look around and let me know what room you dream about fixing up! Maybe you will have some suggestions for my laundry room. I did this make-over nearly 6 years ago and it’s probably due for something new!
When my husband and I got married, I was young and just plain happy to have a house! Since I didn’t have kids, the laundry room was the LAST room I thought about. Basically it was not a thought.
But then kids came along and not only can I NOT remember a time in the last 10 years that I have slept late, but I can’t think of a room I have spent more time in than the laundry room!! Well, I do hide out in the bathroom a lot, but that is another story for another time:-)
In the beginning, our laundry room was small with white walls and a little cabinet above the washer and dryer. After having kids and realizing I was spending most of my waking moment in this closet of a room, I decided I need to fix it up. If being a mom meant spending hours doing laundry, I was going to make it nice!
The first thing I did was to paint the walls a pretty beige and hang photos on the walls.
This small cabinet was the only storage space in the room. So about a year later after things started piling up all over the floor to where you absolutely could not walk into the room, I found a guy to build me some more shelves.
The left wall used to be a blank wall. Boxes used to pile up in the corner and clothes all over the floor!
The best money I ever spent was to have more shelves installed and added a counter so I could have a place to do my most dreaded chore of folding the laundry.
On a whim, I added fabric with a staple gun around the counter so I could hide junk.
This hiding spot comes in super handy when I throw a party! I can just toss things under there that I want out of sight. I have often been told that I am the master of hiding junk and making it seem like I have a clean home! Frankly, it is an art and I take that as a compliment. ha!
Now the cabinets hold the family games, sunscreen and bug spray. I have buckets of play dough and beach bags ready to go to the pool hidden under the counter along with some more junk! I have done my best to organize this small room.
Hidden behind the door is this handy dandy wall organizer that my mom got me. It’s perfect for hanging brooms and mops off of the floor. Family photos always make a room more inviting!
So I think for such a small drab space, it is a lot more likable now, but I still dream of a laundry room with a seating area and tons of counter space. Now I’d LOVE to remodel my bathroom and kitchen… we’ll see… maybe someday!
i have laundry room envy! ours is in our dark basement with gross walls & low ceilings. if you can visualize me carrying a load of laundry bent half over to our washer/dryer – that would be me. ugh!

You could just change the fabric along your counter and change the whole look. I painted my laundry area an intense yellow and it makes me smile whenever I'm there. Really energizes and brightens my space.

One thing I've always wanted to have is the net that you can hang behind your dryer to catch all the socks and things you accidentally drop down there. Does anybody know where to get those?
