Festive Glow in the Dark Cotton Candy Cupcakes in the shape of tornados are the perfect treat for watching the new Amazon Original Kids Series Lost in Oz.
These fun glow in the dark cotton candy cupcakes are a magical treat!
We love the beloved Oz books from L. Frank Baum and are so excited to partner with Amazon Kids by creating a treat to celebrate their new original series Lost in Oz now available on Prime Video! After watching the series, which is an exciting and modern take on the classic story, I decided to make Tornado Glow in the Dark Cotton Candy Cupcakes.
In Lost in Oz, 12-year-old Dorothy Gale discovers her mother’s magical travel journal hidden beneath the floorboards of their Kansas home. The book triggers a tornado, which rips her house from its foundation and transports Dorothy and her dog, Toto, to Emerald City, a bustling, modern, metropolis.

The magical landscape of Oz is full of bright neon colors which inspired me to make a treat with glow sticks! I’ve alway wanted to make glow in the dark cotton candy, and this was the perfect time to try.
These Glow in the Dark Cotton Candy Tornado Cupcakes came with A LOT of trial and error! Luckily for you, I have figured out the fastest and easiest way to make these treats and now they will take you no time at all.
We love watching shows on Amazon Kids! One of the best perks of being an Amazon Prime member is you can also download the series to mobile devices for offline viewing at no additional cost! We do this on road trips and plane rides. Amazon Kids has saved us from hearing our kids fight many times!! Ha!
These cute cupcakes are easy to make and would be fun for a birthday party or making with the kids as they watch Lost in Oz.
How to Make Tornado Glow in the Dark Cotton Candy Cupcakes
What you’ll need:
- 6-12 Cupcakes
- Frosting (Favorite frostings: This cream cheese frosting and this store bought brand.)
- Candy sprinkles and cupcake wrappers
- Purple food coloring gel
- Large Round Frosting Piping Tip
- Cotton Candy Machine
- Cotton Candy Sugar
- Cotton Candy Cones
- Glow Stick Bracelets
- Clear tape
- Scissors
First you will want to start with your cupcakes. I made vanilla cupcakes, homemade frosting and colored it purple.
This tip is very important…
Because the cotton candy will be on glow stick bracelets which are longer than the usual cupcake topper stick, the icing needs to be piped on very high.
Make sure to swirl your icing at least 5-7 times to make room for the glow stick.
After making the cupcakes, print your sign!

While you wait for your cotton candy machine to heat up, get the glowing cones ready!
Cut 1-2 inches off of the bottom of the paper cones. Then place a glow stick inside and wrap tape around the bottom of the cone to secure the glow stick.
I tried using the glow sticks as cotton candy cones, but the cotton candy would not adhere and fall off. Plus the glow stick got very hot and I was worried about heating something that was wrapped around hot plastic.
This was a safe and easy way to get the glowing tornado look!
Now you are ready to add the cotton candy sugar to your machine and make a glowing tornado.
It might take you a few trials, but eventually making a glow in the dark cotton candy tornado is easy! This would be fun for kids to do themselves.
Add your tornado to a cupcake and enjoy!
Note, the cotton candy starts melting after an hour or two. So if you are doing this for a party, make the cotton candy cupcake toppers right before serving.
