Two years ago, I started a new tradition. The Locurto Family Christmas Party.

To start the party, we read my all time favorite Christmas book for little kids called What God Wants for Christmas. It’s an interactive book where the kids have to open gifts during the story to create the nativity scene. My daughter carries her “Baby Jesus” all over the house now. Don’t touch her Baby Jesus… or you’ll get the 2 year old high pitched, ear drum bursting scream!!!

Next, each kid gets to open a gift. It’s always a Hallmark Keepsake Ornament.

This year since my daughter is CRAZY about Minnie Mouse, guess what she got?

My kindergartener is all about Star Wars! He was SO excited for me to take his picture next to his ornament. ha!

You can see their ornaments from last year in this picture too. Princess and soccer. It will be fun to look back at photos of them at different ages and be reminded of what they were interested in that year.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a party without treats. Mmmm pudding!

Who needs a spoon?

The rest of the night, my daughter sang the theme song from Mickey Mouse Club House. But as soon as I got the camera out, she switched up the tune! Here’s a video for your viewing pleasure… note the pudding mouth:-)

I hope that you and yours have a wonderful Christmas. I am so thankful we have “met”, and who knows, maybe one day we can do lunch in Dallas! ๐Ÿ™‚
Best, best wishes for the new year and good health to all!

  2. So sweet! What a great way to get their ornament collections built up so when they leave home, they’ll have some. My oldest daughter has her own place now and her tree is almost bare. Wish I had done this.

  3. Very cute kids and wonderful tradition that I’m sure they will carry on to their kids one day!

  4. I got such a kick out of that video! She is just too cute.

Also love the idea of a Christmas party. My kids would really get into that. Jacob was just saying we should have a birthday cake for baby Jesus this year, something we haven’t done since he was little. I had kind of stopped just because we always were on sugar overload anyway that fitting in another dessert seemed kind of crazy. Maybe we should just do it earlier in the month before we’re in a sugar coma. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Love your blog

  6. Amy, what a great idea and adorable video. Funny how it’s never too late to start new traditions. We started the “pickle gift” a few years back on Christmas Eve and the kids still look forward to it.

This year, we baked gingerbread men and both kids enjoyed that. I’ll have to try doing a video of my guys to post on my blog but they will definitely pale in comparison to your little sweetie singing her song – and I doubt I can get my son or daughter to sing anything! LOL.

    Thanks for sharing.

  10. Oh Amy…she is going to be the cutest wife EVER for my little guy. I’m so glad we have already arranged their marriage!

And your voice? Where is the Texas/Oklahoma drawl?? I was totally expecting that if we ever got to meet each other, I would get to hear some kind of a southern accent. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hearing you makes me want to meet you even more…some day, right?

We, too, like to give ornaments as a gift every year. Of course, now, our tree looks like a NASCAR race!
