My baby wanted a mermaid party.
Here is what she got…. Enjoy!
I had the best time drawing her as a mermaid for the invitation!
Her name was on the invite, I just put “girl” on here for the blog.
I think these cupcake toppers took a lot longer to make than the cup cakes! I now have them for sale in my shop.
The food was sushi sandwiches, brownie bombs, brownie starfish pops, goldfish crackers, fruit, pizza and blue Gatorade.
Little Mermaids
The guests were four little girls and one little boy (her boyfriend!). More about him later… ha!
I made these easy no sew mermaid tails for the girls. I didn’t realize how tall they all were compared to my girl! So some were way shorter than they should have been. You can see directions on how to make these at the bottom of this post. Of course, each mermaid got a crown too!
We had lots of fun and games!
Pin the crown on Ariel (which even the older brothers wanted to do), an under the sea treasure hunt and the older siblings had a blast in the dance contest! Oh my… there were some moves going on that should have been outlawed!! LOL! And of course opening presents at the end was a big highlight!
Taking photos as a mermaid was a hit, even with a few boys!!
I bought a large blue foam core board and spray glued a large cut-out of the mermaid drawing. I cropped in close so you couldn’t see their hands holding the board.
More Decor & Goodies
I found cute Ariel lunch boxes half-off at the Disney Store and filled them up for goodie bags. The boys all got Sponge Bob cups filled with pirate stuff. Centerpieces were big cut-outs on silver chargers with pearls and shells surrounding them. I also had a table with a treasure chest and more food, but didn’t get photos.
How To Make…
A no sew mermaid tail.
Sushi Sandwiches
Roll cheddar cheese, cucumbers, cream cheese and turkey up in a piece of white bread. I also added mustard to some.
Song List

Hi Amy, loved your mermaid party. I had purchased the party pack and downloaded but computer crashed and I’m a week away from my daughter’s 5th birthday and realizing that I can’t print them out anymore. I wonder if you have record of this and could resend? Many thanks. I’ve been sharing your blog with friends. Love it!!!

LOVE all your ideas for this beautiful party. Can you tell me approximately how much fabric was used for each mermaid tail? Thank you!!!

I was completely into your posting looking at all the creative details of your little girl’s birthday party … and then … I see a mermaid with my name! That was just the icing on the cake – no pun intended.

Our front foyer is tiled. Usually I have a rug down, but i thought it would be cute to write something on the tile as guests enter. Any idea WHAT i can use that is washable, yet won’t smear as the mermaids and pirates walk on it. And also, what message to write?

oops. just saw that question was already asked and answered. thanks! i may even use her 10 yr old brother who is quite the artist.

Hi Amy. LOVE these ideas. Am having a mermaid(and pirate) party for my 6 yr old daughter on Saturday. Am incorporating some of your ideas! You said you spray glued the large mermaid cutout onto foam core for the girls to have their picture taken. I was wondering how you got that mermaid image so large.
Thanks!

Amy, what is the width of the mermaid tail fabric that you used? It is absolutely beautiful!!!

@Jeanine Barrera,
I don’t remember the exact width. Maybe 1/2 a yard? I just wrapped it around my daughter and measured that way.

Hi Amy. Do you mind sharing how you fixed the bread in the sushi sandwiches, preventing them from falling apart?

@Dri,
They just stayed together for me. I had pretty soft bread, so after cutting them they stayed that shape. The cream cheese is sort of the glue.

I am so in love, your daughter’s party is everything and then some that I hope my daughter’s 1st birthday mermaid themed party will be <3 My baby was a home, water birth baby so I knew it would be a mermaid theme from before her birth.
Can you give me an idea on how much fabric I need? I don't do anything with fabric and don't have a clue how much I would need????
So you can order the big mermaid picture, the one you had on the poster board separately? I love and will need that!

What a fabulous job and love the photo op you created with the blown up image of your printable. Adorable!

If I ordered the party pack, how can I print the face cut-out and I assume you printed this at Kinkos.
Thanks!

@Jennifer,
Thanks Jennifer! I printed that mermaid body on my home printer in two sections. I have a large format printer for my graphic design business. Because most people probably don’t have that, I don’t offer it as part of my pack.
Enjoy the party:-)
