Chocolate Pecan Turtles - A fast and easy recipe! Livinglocurto.com

I’m happy to have Divian sharing another great recipe today! Enjoy this fast and easy Chocolate Pecan Turtle Recipe. I think it would be perfect for gift giving this season!

During the holidays, we keep  fresh pecans on the table and in the pantry. My mother, staying true to her Southern roots, just cannot let a holiday pass without making tons of pecan pies.  She gifts her pies and we save some for Christmas dinner or to have in the evenings with ice cream or a nice hot cup of chocolate.  We have so many pecans, I had to figure out something to do with them.

Most people know these candies, we buy them all the time but when I decided to make them, I told myself, this is really easy! Why oh why have I waited so long to make them! Now I can’t stop making them. As soon as they cool, they are gone! My family is devouring them!

You will need:

  • 1 cup of pecan halves
  • 1 bag of soft caramels (I cut them in half as they are big)
  • Small Pretzels
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips
  • 1 cup of butterscotch chips (optional)
  • Crushed candy cane (optional)

Directions

On a baking sheet, line your pretzels. Add your caramel square on top.

Preheat the oven to broil. Place the pretzels/caramels in the oven and watch carefully. The caramels will begin to melt, remove when they are softened after about 3-6 minutes.

Immediately press a pecan half into the soft caramel center of the pretzel. Set aside.

I use a double boiler to melt my chocolate since I have never been successful microwaving it. In the boiler, heat your water on medium, place the double boiler with your chocolate chips on top of the water.

Stir until the chocolate is melted and creamy. Spoon over your pretzel candies and smooth it out with your spoon.

While still melted, you can sprinkle over your crushed candy cane or even crushed pecans.

I topped some of mine with melted butterscotch as a drizzle. I just spooned the butterscotch into the corner of a ziploc bag, clipped the corner and drizzled over some of the candies. Instant yum!
