Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
Easy chocolate buttercream frosting recipe. This quick and delicious 5 ingredient frosting is great for cakes, cupcakes, cookies or brownies!

Ingredients

cup
unsalted butter, softened
(113 grams)

confectioners’ sugar
(240 grams)
⅓
cup
unsweetened cocoa powder
(35 grams)

tablespoons
heavy cream*
(see note below)

teaspoon
vanilla extract
Instructions
In a large bowl, whip butter until light and fluffy (about 3 to 4 minutes).
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
Add in confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream and vanilla. Beat frosting until well mixed and fluffy (about 5 minutes).
2 cups confectioners’ sugar,
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder,
6 tablespoons heavy cream*,
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Add frosting to cake, cupcakes or brownies.
Make ahead and store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Notes
This is a thick buttercream frosting. For a slightly thinner icing, use ½ cup of heavy cream instead of 6 tablespoons.
