4cupsfresh blackberriesfrozen works too, just thaw and drain them slightly
½cupgranulated sugar
⅛teaspoonnutmeg
½cupsalted butter1 stick, melted
The Spiced Cobbler Topping
1 ¼cupOriginal Bisquick mix
¾cupmilk
¼cupgranulated sugar
¼ teaspoonpple pie spice
Instructions
Preheat and Prep
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the melted butter directly into the bottom of a 9x9 inch baking dish, coating it evenly.
Macerate the Berries
In a medium bowl, gently toss the blackberries with 1/2 cup of sugar and nutmeg. Let them sit for a few minutes to get nice and juicy while you make the batter.
Mix the Topping Batter
In a separate bowl, mix together the Bisquick, milk, the remaining sugar and apple pie spice until smooth.
Layer Without Stirring
Pour the batter directly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Gently swirl the batter into the butter, but do not stir.
Next, spoon the spiced blackberries and all their juices evenly over the top of the batter. Again, do not stir. As it bakes, the batter will magically rise up around the fruit.
Bake Until Golden
Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until the cobbler crust is a rich, golden brown and the berry juices are bubbling around the edges.
Notes
You can easily make a homemade batch of apple pie spice by combining 4 tbsp cinnamon, 1.5 tsp nutmeg, 1 tsp ginger, and 0.5 tsp allspice.
