Easy Sausage Egg Casserole is a family favorite breakfast! This make-ahead egg recipe with gooey cheese and sausage is perfect for any occasion, especially for the holidays!
Cook sausage until brown, stir to crumble, drain and set aside.
Remove crusts from bread and spread with butter
Place bread in greased 9x13 baking dish. Cut the pieces if needed to fit the entire pan.
Spoon sausage over bread and sprinkle sausage with 1 cup of cheese.
In a bowl, beat eggs, half and half and salt together. Pour over cheese.
Cover and chill overnight.
Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until bubbling.
Let set out of the oven for 5 minutes before cutting and serving.
Notes
If you want to cook right away, cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil, this is when you can top with more cheese and place back into the oven for another 3-5 minutes until bubbling.
