Whether you are choosing to upgrade a few things or remodeling your entire kitchen, these handy tips will get you started without stressing out.
Cabinets are one of the most important decisions you can make when remodeling your kitchen. If you go with a company recommended by The Women’s Choice Award, like Thomasville Cabinetry, you will have no worries about getting high quality products along with beautiful designs.
Of course a great new look is a must have, but how do you choose the right components to a fabulous kitchen?
1. Choose a Cabinet Door Profile First
Cabinet doors are the most visible design elements in your kitchen, so your door style is one of the most important decisions you will make. A great way to narrow down your choices of cabinet doors is to decide on a door profile. Here are samples of some I got to choose from with Thomasville.
I knew I wanted a more modern look with a classic feel that would last for generations. I also wanted something different than I already had in my current kitchen. I loved the look of the slab, but it was just a bit too modern for me. So I decided I liked recessed square the best, because of its simplicity with a touch of decorative edge to add a pretty design element. Now that one decision is made, it’s easier to make the rest!
2. Narrow Down Your Favorite Cabinet Door Styles
Next decide on the style. A lot of times, this is easily narrowed down by budget. So with your budget and door profile in mind, the choices get easier. Thomasville carries many gorgeous styles. I recommend going to the store to see samples and taking photos of your top 3 or 4 styles on your phone. Just take four photos max and don’t go back to the cabinet samples! Look through your photos and delete the ones you don’t love. This should lead you to your top choice for a cabinet door style.
I’m excited to be going with Thomasville’s brand new Studio 1904 line! This line has cabinets that embrace the furniture legacy with a modern vintage vibe.
Here are my four photos. Can you guess which door style I chose? Keep reading and you’ll find out…
3. Know Your Wood Type and Color
I think most of us know what our dream cabinet color and finish would be. If you aren’t sure about the type of wood, then ask your experienced kitchen designer.
I’m jumping for joy to say goodbye to my ornate dark cherry wood cabinets and hello to bright white cabinet doors! It’s going to look so different!
After deciding on a style and finish for your cabinets, think about your kitchen’s function. You are the chef, baker and cleaner of your kitchen and know exactly what will work best for you. Lucky for us, Thomasville Cabinetry mixes function with beauty!
4. Think About Both Function and Beauty
Now you have so many different choices when choosing new cabinets. For example, I decided to have more drawers under my counter tops rather than shelves. That will be a nice change for me! Once you decide on the type of style, there are even more ways to add personality such as decorative or textured glass doors.
Have you heard about QuietClose? It’s a premium hardware that is mounted to the hinge and engages when the door is 1” from closing. This creates a smooth, silent self-closing motion. I was over the moon when I found out this feature comes standard on Thomasville doors! No more kids slamming doors or leaving drawers open, they shut all the way on their own. One function I would definitely want when choosing kitchen cabinets.
5. Make Organization an Important Part of the Decision Making
Having an organized kitchen is very important. Think about how you use your kitchen the most and how it will need to function throughout the years to come as your family grows.
With so many great organization options from Thomasville, such as utensil pantry pullouts to a wall message center, you can find the perfect idea for organizing your kitchen cabinets.
6. Maximize Every Inch
Lastly, you want to maximize every inch! An efficient kitchen is a happy you! A great place to maximize your space is with your kitchen island.
Will you want bar stools or use the entire space for cabinet organization? Would a lazy Susan, SuperCabinet or a pots and pans pullout make your life much easier?
With a world of options, Thomasville Cabinetry makes it easy to design your kitchen with the best look and functionality in mind. Be sure and check them out online today or next time you are at The Home Depot!
