I was tagged by Tidy Mom a while back to tell 5 random things about myself. (I think it was 5?) While I’m waiting on birthday photos to upload on my computer, I thought this would be a fun post for today!

Hint, hint… come back Wed & Thursday for the most awesome mad scientist birthday party ideas and a few free downloads to make your party complete!!

I’ve written a lot of random things about myself here, so today I thought having a theme would be much more exciting!

5 random people I’ve known who became famous…

1. James Marsden

Photo by Jesse Grant –  WireImage.com

At Oklahoma State, we called him Jimmy. He was probably only 19 years old when I knew him. WOW! Look at him now.

I remember he was always singing and performing. I don’t know if he’d remember me from Adam now. That was a long time ago!! LOL!  I love that he made it big time from a small town in Oklahoma. Go Jimmy! My favorite movies he’s acted in were Enchanted, The Notebook and 27 Dresses.

2. Bret Baier

Bret is the anchor of “Special Report With Bret Baier.” He formerly served as chief White House correspondent for FOX News. I met Bret in college during the summer I lived in Hilton Head, SC. He was a reporter for a small news station then. Who knew he would be interviewing the president someday? He was, and probably still is a super sweet guy! I found this fun pic in my old photo album. Wow… look how tan and young we were! ha.

3. Edwin McCain

Edwin is one of my favorite musicians! I’m sure you’ve all heard his hit “I’ll be.” The photo above with Bret was taken at Wild Wing Cafe in Hilton Head where at least 2 nights a week Edwin would be performing. We were there each week hanging out listening to Edwin. Just down the street was Hootie and the Blowfish! Talk about one FUN summer!! I think the following year Hootie became really popular and took Edwin on tour with them. Soon after that he had a number one hit!

4. Nolan Ryan

I art directed a photo shoot with Nolan Ryan years ago. It was a lot of fun and he was super nice and signed several baseballs for me. For those of you who aren’t from Texas or into baseball… Nolan Ryan was a record breaking pitcher for the Texas Rangers. I guess he was already famous when I worked with him, but it’s still fun to show this picture.

5. Marlboro Man

If you’re fans of The Pioneer Woman, You’ll know who I’m talking about. I have several other photos with famous people… but in the blog world this guy might be more well known so I chose him for #5. I went to high school with MM, the Pioneer Woman’s husband. Sorry MM, I thought this picture was hilarious! Had to put it on here:-) This is from 1987… read the caption and it’s even funnier. MM is in the middle with the #15 shaved in his hair. Ha! Don’t you just love high school?  It was a very small school, so everyone knew everyone. That’s why I enjoy reading Ree’s blog so much. It’s fun when friends from home come to visit. I get caught up a little:-)

Now I’m tagging any of you reading this. Have you known anyone who became famous? Have some good photos with a celebrity? Do a post about it and let me know or just write about it in the comments. I’d love to hear your stories.

Share the fun!

  1. I wrote Holly Black an email back when I was in high school (when she just started writing The Spiderwick Chronicles.) She wrote me back. That’s about as close to fame as I’ve come.

  2. I used to work for REM. They’re all very nice, although Michael Stipe was not a big fan of showers at the time, lol.

And I’ve seen Edwin McCain and George Hincapie around town (I live in Greenville, SC) but I’ve never spoken to them.

  3. Wow Amy, you do get around. So cool about MM, though!!!

Nope, I don’t know any famous people, however the girl who played Robert’s wife, Amy, in Everybody Loves Raymond, was two years behind me at my high school. Tina Fey grew up in the same town that I did, although I didn’t know her. Ummm, my daughter’s clarinet teacher is in the Philly Pops orchestra and I know him pretty well. Ummm, my cousin was in several movies years ago, Lonesome Dove was one of them. His name is Travis Swords (birth name Tommy Swords) and he is from Beaumont, TX. He was also in Don’t Cry It’s Only Thunder and the movie they did about Jim and Tammy Baker (Fall from Grace – I think). However, I haven’t seen my cousin in years! Jeez, I’m really stretching here….

So cool you know all those people back when……

  4. What a fun post, Amy! It is really cool that you went to school with MM. I love PW & read her blog faithfully. They seem like such a nice family & those boys look just like him, don’t they?! I’m not as familiar with the other famous people you know, except for Nolan Ryan. I do know about him! ha! Guess my age is showing. 🙂

So, my famous person that I know. Travis Tritt. Grew up in church with him (he’s about 6-8 yrs. younger than me & I was best friends with his couson). My dad is a retired pastor & Travis’s entire family on his mom’s side came to our small church, so I knew them all. His G’daddy was also a pastor & very close to my family. Last time I saw Travis was at his G’mother’s funeral & my dad helped with the service (about 4 years ago). Travis was still very friendly & hugged us all & even sent my Dad (after he asked!) all of his CD’s. Very nice guy! My dad performed his first marriage ceremony too.

  5. Amy, you are so cool!

And no, I’ve never “known” anyone that became famous. And never in our 1 year stint of living in Santa Barbara did I run into any celebrity. Or any time we’ve gone down to LA. Except that one time we ran into Mr. T at the Chinese Theater and got his autograph. But that’s it, my dull life!

  6. Once while in mexico we found this sweet little beach, that had a little open air “hut” restaurant so we stopped in for lunch- Jessica Lange and her family came in and ate at the table next to us- Does that count?
That’s about as exciting as it gets around my part- fun post.

  7. I’ve met a few people… but not OVERLY famous – mostly well-known business owners.

I will, however, post a picture of me and Lupe Ontiveros tomorrow – she’s a Hispanic actress. She came out in Real Women Have Curves (she’s the mom).

  8. I know so many famous people through my friend, Amy, who apparently knows so many famous people. 😉 You rule lady!

Nope ~ I’ve never met a one. I have one blogger friend, Denene Millner, who is an accomplished author and who writes articles for Parenting magazine. I’ll claim her as my famous person!

    You get around girl! LOL

hmmm, I didn’t REALLY KNOW anyone before they were famous—–I went to Mizzou the same time Brad Pitt was there and I lived in the dorm across from his frat house…of course he was an “unknown” then – but I bet I went to a frat party he was at! LOL

    Thanks for playing Amy!

  11. What a neat post Amy! Sadly, I do not know any famous people and the only famous person I have met was Little Richard… funny…

  12. That was a fun post and I think the world gets smaller and smaller especially with the likes of the internet and facebook. I will have to find my picture with Emeril – I think he’s the only famous person I have a picture with. I’ve had run ins with other famous folks but this was before the days of camera phones. Thanks for the post idea…I’ll work on mine.
