Easy Lego Cake Pops

I made Minifigures Lego Cake Pops for my son’s Lego Birthday Party! Aren’t they cute?

At the time I made these creative Lego Cake Pops (in 2010), for my son’s Lego Birthday Party, nobody had seen anything like them. It’s amazing to see them ALL over the internet years and years after posting this. So I am proud to call these the “Original Lego Cake Pops!” My one claim to fame. ha!!!

It is pretty cool to see so many boys enjoying these treats at their own birthday parties and why I started a blog about my creative ideas in the first place. LivingLocurto.com is to help others become more creative. It makes me smile knowing that something as simple as a yellow cake pop with Lego Mini Figurine faces drawn on them has made so many kids happy!

I love coming up with creative kids birthday party ideas and I hope you enjoy this idea! If you make Lego Pops, please share a photo on my Facebook Page or tag me on Instagram. Thanks!

Gourmet Food Pens  Yellow Wilton Candy Melts   loliipop sticks   styrofoam craft

Directions

  1. Bake a cake, let cool.  Put pieces of the cake in a bowl. Mash it up mixing it with a can of frosting.
  2. Roll a small handful of mashed up cake into a ball, then carefully roll the ball on wax paper to make the Lego head shape.
  3. The Lego connector on top is a small round marshmallow. I sliced up a large marshmallow and used a Wilton cake icing tip to cut out a small circle. You could also use a mini marshmallow cut in half, or an M&M.
  4. Arrange assembled Lego head shapes on wax paper and stick a lollipop stick in the top.
  5. Once assembled, freeze the cake pops. This way the cake will hold it’s shape when you dip into the warm candy.
  6. Fill a deep bowl with Yellow Candy Melts. Melt the candy in the microwave for a minute, then stir. Keep gradually heating the candy until it’s creamy.
  7. Dip the frozen cake into a bowl of melted yellow candy melts. Gently tap the stick on the side of the bowl and twirl a bit so the candy is smooth.
  8. Let cool before drawing faces on them. You can use a piece of styrofoam to stick them into until you are ready for the party.

Displaying your Lego Cake Pops

Place the craft styrofoam into a bowl, bucket or cute box, then stick the cake pops into the foam. Cover the foam with candy or shredded paper. I used M&M’s for these Lego Cake Pops.

It would also be hilarious to fill the container with Lego Mini Figurine Heads if you have enough!

Cake pops are good for a few days. I made mine the day before the party.

How to Make Lego Head Marshmallow Pops

Lego Marshmallow Pops are a much faster version of the cake pops. I made several of these pops as a test, and they turned out super cute!

Slicing off the bottom of a large marshmallow and cutting a circle out of it with an icing tip for the top worked great.

Wet your knife or scissors before cutting the marshmallow to make it a clean and less sticky cut.

Assemble your Lego head and follow the same instructions as the cake pops.

I would share my photo, but don’t know how to do that.

  5. Just want to say : THANK YOU, I made the marshmallow “fake pops” for my son’s birthday and he gave me the title Baking Genius! He was so thrilled!

  6. How do you let dipped marshmallow heads set up? I usually set them on their tops but you can’t do that with these?

  7. Hi! Love the marshmallow idea! I’m going to try it for my sons 7th birthday next week. Just wondering can I make them ahead of time and freeze them??

  8. I am attempting to make the marshmellow pops to stick into cupcakes for my son’s birthday party next weekend. Should the marshmellows be frozen before dipping, too?

  9. Please do not use m&m’s or other coloured candies!! I did this and now my lego heads are all discoloured from the colour melting off 🙁

  10. Thanks so much for your cake pop tutorial….I made them today for my sons lego themed 9th birthday party. They turned out really well and were a huge hit!

  11. Thank you for the lego head cake pop idea. My son had a pack meeting for cub scouts and they did lego racing. These “pops” were a hit. I did the cake version so I could it but I also did a marshmallow version and they looked and tasted just as good and were much easier. My one thing to add… don’t use those cake writing pens. They don’t work. Just buy the black frosting in a tube and a SMALL decorator tip for best results.

  12. Are you able to deliver to Nunavut,
My son will be 6 in a couple weeks and he wants a Batman Birthday party theme?

  13. can you please tell me how you drew the faces on the marshmallow pops? I bought edible markers, but it’s like trying to draw on wax….HELP!!

  14. Hi,

I really love your cake lego lollipops!. I already tried to make them for the birthday of my son. But when ik dipped the cake in the candy melts it wasn’t that smooth as it is on your picture. I didn’t freeze the cake first, will that be the trigger?
Ik melted the candy with the dubble boiler method.
    Can you help me out?
    Thanks.

  15. Thank you so much for this idea! I am throwing a Lego themed birthday party for my 6 year old and can’t wait to try out your ideas! THANKS!! 🙂

  16. the trick to getting LEGO picked up is bring out the vacuum, set it down and not turning it quite yet – OH my kids panic and pick up faster than you can imagine. If that doesn’t work turn on the vacuum suck up some small noisy peice of whatever…they panic, turn off walk away! We love LEGO and I am loving the LEGO party can’t wait until next summer thank you!

  17. I love your idea but I face a problem when I cut for the head with a cake tip can you post a video or more pictures of how to do it?

    Thanks

  18. My son’s party is in a week but I made 3 test pops yesterday. They came out great EXCEPT I bought a food marker and it doesn’t want to write on the candy melts, it seems like they are too slick and the marker just doesn’t take. Any ideas for me? I am wondering if I should used melted chocolate but I am afraid they will look sloppy. Also how far ahead can I make these? I am hoping maybe 3 days? Thanks!

  19. My son would go CRAZY for these! We were just at the LEGO store today! Hey…maybe I could bring some in for a discount? 😉

This whole party is adorable…the pops, the toppers, the cupcakes…love it!

  20. Amy, you are simply brilliant! My son is turning 5 at the end of June and has requested a Lego Star Wars party. Tried everything to convince him a genetic Lego party would be cool but he’s adamant, so Star Wars it is! Dying to see what else you did for your lucky little boy’s b-day bash!

  21. @Aimee,

Your cupcakes were really cute! I was going to do that with Lego candy, but I couldn’t find anything around here. You have to order them and I never plan that far ahead. Thanks for sharing!

  22. @April,

Mine wanted a Lego Star Wars party too. I talked him into a generic one that way he could play with ALL of the different Legos:-)

  23. The cake pops are so cute. What a perfect way to represent Minifigs!! I espeically love the idea of using marshmallows to make it easier.

We had a Lego party at our house last year and the kids loved it. I made a Lego cake, but I was more fnd of the Lego cupcakes I made. They turned out so cool and were very easy. Check it out if you have a chance…

  24. @Miz Booshay,

Thanks Donna! We are big Lego fans. The only thing I don’t like about them is when I step on one and that’s a daily thing around here:-)

  25. Love these! Totally impressed with all the Lego birthday stuff you have been sharing. Can’t wait to read the whole post about it.

I will be doing a Lego birthday party for my son in August. Will be “borrowing” many of your ideas. Not sure, yet, if I’m going to attempt the Lego head cake pops; but I can promise you I’ll be purchasing your printable Lego party pack.

  26. Oh Amy!!!
These are just the most clever thing!!!

Over many years my boys collected and played with Lego.
They built the huge ships and cars towns.

Emma came along and she collected the people from the boys piles.
How she and her girlfriend loved the faces.
    The girls made houses.
We got a kick out of the red headed people and the girl faces.

    These are too cute!!!!

  27. Oh my goodness. What a great idea. The marshmallows are so much easier than the cake. No rolling into balls. My cake balls were not nearly as cute.

  28. Soooooo super clever! Bakerella would no doubt like to see these…have you sent her a link yet? By the way, you’ve got some crazy good lego-face drawing abilities! PERFECT!
    Great job girl!

  29. Ahhhhhhhh!!! Those are SOOO cute! LOVE!!! I had no idea that’s what you were talking about with the cake pops.. how stinkin’ perfect is that? You are simply genius….

  30. I love these! What a great take on the whole lego theme. Loving the colors too. They look so fresh and happy! Looking forward to seeing the party!
