How to Make Halloween Crack
Here’s what you’ll need for one batch. I highly recommend doubling this recipe!
- 45-50 saltine crackers
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 ½ cups chocolate chips
- 1/2 Candy Corn M&M’s (You could also use candy corn or other flavors of candy.)
- Candy eyes
Pre-heat your oven to 325 degrees and line a large jelly roll pan with parchment paper. Place the saltine crackers on the parchment side-by-side covering the pan.
You can start melting your chocolate in a double boiler over low heat. Or wait and place it in the microwave later.
In a medium sized pot, melt the butter and sugar over medium-low heat. Stir with a wooden spoon until the butter is melted. Once the butter has melted, turn up the heat to medium-high and bring to a boil for no more than 2.5 to 3 minutes. Stir constantly so your mixture does not burn, it will be very bubbly.
Remove pan from heat and pour over saltine crackers. Carefully, but quickly as the toffee hardens fast, spread mixture with a knife, trying to cover all of the crackers.
Bake for 8 minutes. The toffee will bubbly up again and spread out. Remove pan from the oven and let cool.
I like to melt my chocolate in the microwave. Here’s the best way:
In a glass bowl, microwave the chocolate for 15 second, removing and stirring each time. After a few rounds, the chocolate will start to melt. Stop when it’s almost fully melted and continue to stir until smooth.
Now pour melted chocolate over the top of the toffee and spread it out evenly with a knife.
Sprinkle M&M’s and candy eyes on top and then place the entire pan in the freezer for 15 minutes. Once chocolate has hardened break toffee into pieces.

Actually, if you sprinkle the chocolate chips on the toffee covered crackers when you take them out of the oven, the chip will melt & then just spread them.
