If you have kids, then you should LOVE this free printable I created for kids. I’ve been trying to figure out a new way of getting them to do extra chores and when my friend’s son came home from school with an application for classroom jobs… I just had to make one for my house!!

Basically, this is a job application for chores beyond my children’s normal duties of cleaning their room and picking up toys. I feel like they should do everyday chores as a part of our family, but should learn what it’s like to be in the “real world” by getting paid to do specific jobs. I have used the Dave Ramsey book and a chore chart to teach them about money, which I still LOVE, but needed to change it up a bit.

This application has jobs that will work for both preschoolers and grade school aged kids. It lets them choose their own jobs and you set the time period and how much they will get paid. Just download and read it… I think you’ll enjoy it. I sure had fun making it!!

If you were wondering about the job “Speaker of the House”…. it’s to try to get my son to open up more about his day. So far, he has NOT picked that job yet. ha!

Here are a few job description samples:

Luckily for us, my husband is Dave Ramsey’s twin! ha.

Along with this book, Dave has a great web site for kids. He uses a envelope system for saving, spending and giving. His book comes with a chart to keep track of chores and commission. I love how you get fined for bad behavior!! Basically you pay your child at the end of the week, then they sort the money into the envelopes. 10% goes into savings and giving, the rest in spending. Just like the real world. I also love that part.

Well, we did Dave’s chart for a while and when you have scatterbrained, non-interested 5 year old, you have to mix it up a bit. So I headed to the local teacher store and found this awesome magnetic chore chart that has pictures of the chores. I decided the smiley face magnets would equal a dime.

This new chart has really worked for my son. I hung it low enough to where he can add the magnets when he does a chore. He know knows that if he wants something, he needs to work for it. Granted there are times that he still whines, begs and throws fits for something, but in general he is becoming a mini money and math mogul. He loves to sort his money into the envelopes and take the give one to the church.

To date, he has given the church nearly $12. Not bad for a few months of making a dime per chore and me forgetting to pay him some weeks! (remember I told you I was bad with money!) What I love is that he is so proud and happy to give it. Our church has this cool coin machine that kids can drop change in and get a receipt. So that part is fun too! I make sure to talk about his giving to our pastors while he is standing close enough to eavesdrop:-)

I am so happy with this system that I’m even speaking to a group (MY BIGGEST FEAR) to help others learn ways to teach their children to spend, save and give.

Oh, one more thing! I just got my Fundoodies in the mail. Now I have one more thing to shake things up when the magnet chart gets boring. Fundoodies is an awesome card game, created by a mom, that gets kids excited to do chores. My son has been begging me to play. Unbelievable!! The reason being… there are rewards mixed in with the chores and he REALLY wants to go bowling. ha!

Well, this week I got a glimpse of what some of my parenting has accomplished so far and I had to write about it.

Well, this week I got a glimpse of what some of my parenting has accomplished so far and I had to write about it.

My husband and I want our kids to know the value of a dollar and what to do with that dollar, so I’ve been teaching my son about money through an awesome program that Dave Ramsey has for kids. You learn about how to save, spend and give. “Give” being something that he was NOT too fond about at first. For over a month, we have been giving our son chores to do. With the money he earns, we put 10% in an envelope for church. They have a cool coin machine the kids can put their change in called “Pennies from Heaven.” He just loves doing this! With giving in mind, I always mention things we could do like helping sick kids by taking them activities and toys. Sending drawings to our troops. Things you say that you really don’t think is sinking in to your 5 year old’s mushy, Batman obsessed brain, but you say it anyway!

A few days ago, we drove by a new children’s hospital that is almost finished being built near our home and my son said, “Now we can go cheer up the sick kids!!” I guess it’s not as mushy as I thought…

Then, today he came home from Vacation Bible School telling me that the zebra is dead and we need to help the kids in Africa. Huh??? After I wrapped my head around what that meant, I remembered our church is trying to raise money to send to Nigeria for a water filtration system. Okay, they must have shown a video with a dead zebra that drank the dirty water??? (Any of you VBS volunteers out there fill me in please:-) Well, whatever they did worked because my son actually gave up his highly anticipated Chick-Fil-A dinner money so he could put it in the bucket at church! Any of you with kids know that this is a major deal to give up anything fried that comes with a toy!!

The verdict is still out on whether my kids will turn out to be the well rounded, loving, highly motivated, giving, happy, smart adults that I hope and pray for them to be… but at least for now something is sinking in.

**Update on the money given by the kids:

By the end of the week, they raised close to $7,000 to build a new well and more for our Nigeria friends!! Wow!! Isn’t that great? I’m so excited my son was involved. Our church rocks!
