We just had my son’s 6th birthday party!

I have so much to show you that I will split it up into parts. I hope you enjoy Part 1… it’s all about the decor.

Don’t even bother going to the party stores to find decorations because there are none. I designed some cute invitations that fold over and are held together by “Open With Caution” stickers.

I also used the stickers for goodie bags which I’ll show details on my Part 2 post. Since I’m all about the free downloads… I created a version just for you!!  Just score along the lines, fold and attach the caution sticker with double stick tape or print them out on sticker paper. Print and enjoy!

Now to my favorite part of the party… the cake!!

I am all about cupcakes lately and had the best time decorating these. I just LOVE the little scientist guy.

Let’s get a closer look and you’ll see how I did it…

Candy needed:

Tie- fruit roll-up

Nose and ears- jelly beans

Eyes- mini M&M’s

Mouth- fruit cereal

I mixed up some flesh colored icing for the face. The hair was done by putting the icing in a sandwich baggie and cutting a v shape in a corner. You can then squeeze out the crazy hair! The glasses can be done the same but with a tiny cut in the corner of the bag. I used chocolate icing from a can for those.

Make sure after you place the head cupcake on top of the other cupcake you secure with toothpicks. I didn’t do this and my guy fell smack on the floor as I was carefully moving him to the fridge!! This was my second little mad scientist of the night.

Roll the sides of your cupcakes in sprinkles for a festive look. I found some eyeball gummy candy on sale from Halloween. Worked perfect for decoration.

I didn’t have a large cupcake stand, so I rigged one by stacking a glass on top of my cake stand and adding a glass plate with another glass on top of that. It worked great!

I decorated the table with creepy things! Vases with water and neon food coloring in them. I added plastic snakes and lizards. For a great effect, add dry ice. I happened to have this gadget that produces bubbles, one of my favorite Halloween buys this year! Who knew it would come in handy now?

See the finger in the test tube? Add oil and water with a drop of food coloring and you have a fun bubbly experiment for the kids to play with.

If you look closely you’ll see my son’s face on the M&M’s. These custom candies are the coolest! The kids thought it was great to eat my son’s head. ha!
