How to Make a Mercury Glass Centerpiece With Coke Bottles

Holiday season is my favorite time to entertain! I love making DIY home decor and decorations with items I already have around the house.

I partnered with Coca-Cola a few years ago to share some fun holiday DIY Party Ideas and I loved how pretty these DIY Mercury Glass Centerpieces turned out!

We’re planning for our New Year’s Eve party. Since I’m always a last minute party planner, this year I’m trying to actually do things ahead of time.

Coke bottles are such a fun thing to turn into an eye catching centerpiece that you can use for holidays or anytime of the year!

In about 20-30 minutes, you can turn your regular glass Coke bottles (everyone’s favorite bottle right!?) into gorgeous mercury bottles! I don’t know why I haven’t done this before, because it was so easy!

Start stocking up on Coke and get my New Year’s Eve printables and directions below for how to make your own fabulous DIY centerpiece with Mercury Glass Coke Bottles!

What you’ll need:

Step 1

First clean out your Coke bottles, dry them and place on your newspaper or tarp.

Step 2

Start spraying the Coke bottles with your Looking Glass Spray. I pretty much used the whole can of paint on 6 bottles. It takes several coats to cover the red Coke label. Let each coat completely dry before adding a new coat of paint.

Here is a GREAT tip that I figured out after the 3rd or 4th coat….

Spray your bottles from a distance. I was noticing that the red labels on the bottles in the back of the line were getting covered much quicker than the bottles closer to me. When I would spray the ones close to me, the paint would just slide off.

To move the bottles without messing up the paint, just stick your finger in the opening to carry them around. You can’t mess this up! Mercury glass looks good when it’s splotchy and uneven.

Step 3

After your bottles have dried, fill them with flowers and sparkly goodness of your choice. I made mine different heights because I knew I would clump them all together for my final centerpiece.

Step 4

If you plan to decorate for a special occasion or holiday, download some of our printables. I’ve updated the printables to the current year. (Download them below)

To give the signs some sparkle, I glued a few silver glittered snowflakes to the paper.

Print on thick paper or card stock and bend/curve the banner to give it some added flare.

Step 5

Arrange your bottles on a cake stand, tray or in my case a silver charger. Give the bottles different heights by placing a few on upside down glass cups or anything else you have that would work.

Rearrange the flowers inside of your centerpiece to look pleasing, then add your extra decorations or printables.
