DIY Holiday Home Tour {Before & After} LivingLocurto.com

Yay! It’s almost Christmas! I’m sure many of you have your home decorated for the holidays and today is the perfect day to snap some photos and share for Living Creative Thursday. This is a day where we share creative ideas, meet others in the blogging community and get inspired!

If you follow me on Facebook and Instagram then you might have noticed me talking about my niece’s new home that her husband built himself!

I got to visit this summer and take some before photos. I’m happy that Jaclyn sent me some recent photos of what she has done with the place now that they have moved in. For a girl on a budget and who decorated it all herself, I think she did a fabulous job! Their new home is gorgeous.

To keep with Living Creative Thursday‘s theme today of “Holiday Home Tour & Decorating Ideas”, I’m sharing a few before and after photos of Jaclyn’s Holiday decorated home.

One of these days, after it’s totally finished,  I’ll give you a tour of the whole house. The outside is beautiful too!

Here are some photos I took this summer of the home in progress. Can you believe they built this themselves? My husband is doing good to add a dimmer switch to a light fixture. We didn’t get the handy gene in our family!

This is the back of the home. Not too shabby.

This is the view of the backyard from the top deck.

Wrap around back porches, beautiful rolling hills, the country with lots of cousins, wild kittens, horses and motorcycles… I am ready to move in! Yeah I can work from anywhere, you won’t mind me and my crazy kids would you Jaclyn?

When the home is not decorated for the holidays, she uses yellow as an accent color. I love it!

I asked “What would you put on this wall?” a few weeks ago on Facebook and got some great suggestions. Please leave a comment if you have some good ideas.

  1. Also love that rug in the main room. Could you advise where it was purchased? Thanks!

  2. Beautiful! I think a very large horizontal piece of artwork would be nice on that back wall. She already has a wall gallery so something with a singular focus, blending the grays and golds would be perfect. It will also give the eye a resting focal point looking across the room, leading into the kitchen. Ballard Designs has some nice large pieces in that she might like.

  3. Such a gorgeous house. I would probably do a recycled statement piece on the wall: An old window frame used as a picture frame or an old door repurposed. I love the idea of old ladders taken apart and used as shelving, too.

  4. Just want to thank my fun and beautiful Aunt Amy for featuring our place. We still have so many projects to complete, but it’s coming along. And yes, you can move in…

  5. Hey Wendy! All of our guests have commented on the wall colors. A true hit! The main living room/dining room area is Woodland Colonial Gray by Valspar and the kitchen/breakfast nook is Mountain Smoke by Valspar.

  6. Yes, so pretty! It is hard to find paint colors in those shades that appear warm and not cold or flat. Beautiful design!

  7. Hello Mandee. The couch is a custom order Broyhill. We purchased it at Hefner Furniture in Farmington, MO! We love the low armrests and deep cushions. So comfy to snuggle! I chose a solid gray microfiber fabric and chocolate brown pillows to keep it neutral. The gray/brown leopard print pillows bring it together and add pattern. I just add seasonal throw pillows for color.

  8. I would add a large canvas gallery wrap…specifically of an image I took on the OG Ranch in way west Texas a few years back. Lots of yellows and greys to pull those colors from the furniture…it's on my business page. Laren Bridges Photography on FB.

  9. beautiful home!!! the exterior is gorgeous. on that wall – you know me, i would do a gallery wall. 😉 but i would keep it in soft colors & black & natural wood frames with accents of silver to match her hardware & cabinets in her kitchen around the corner.
